Natural Gray by Behr Paint

Natural Gray by Behr is one of the truest shades of gray that I’ve come across. This color offers a modern and sophisticated feel, but doesn’t feel cold like other gray paint colors.

Behr’s Natural Gray offers a slight warm undertone that compliments any wood tone that it comes in contact with. The color pulls more gray in darker rooms, but brings more warmth in a room with a lot of natural lighting.

This Behr paint color may appear slightly purple when painted onto the wall. Don’t worry this color will not stay purple. Once the wall has been painted from top to bottom in Natural Gray, it will take on a gray appearance and the purple tones will fade away.

The color Natural Gray is a soft muted shade of gray with a cool taupe-gray undertone. Natural Gray is a simple color that will not overpower a room. Instead, this color will compliment surrounding wood tones and colors in the room.

The color can appear slightly warm near wood tones and in natural lighting. If Natural Gray is paired with bright white or black, the color can appear more cool.

Natural Gray Hex Code

Hex codes are a great way to test colors and make your own paint chips in a design program to create a mood board. Take the hex code with the hashtag in front and copy into a color palate to compare colors for your paint project.

Red Green Blue (RGB)

All paint colors are mixed from the three colors red, green, and blue. When the RGB is equal or close to it then the paint color is considered a neutral color.

If the RGB is higher then the color is lighter, but if the RGB is lower then the color is darker.

Using RGB to select a paint color can be confusing, but it can help you determine undertones in a color.

Light Reflective Value (LRV)

You might be wondering what LRV stands for when it comes to paint colors. Every paint color has a light reflective score between 0 and 100 to show the amount of light absorbed by the color.

If a paint color has a score closer to 0, this means the color absorbs light and will make a room feel dark. A paint color with a score closer to 100, would give off a bright and light feeling.

Before selecting any paint color, always consider the LRV to determine if the color is right for the space. Natural Gray has a reflection score of 53 making this a great color to choose for a room with a lot of natural lighting or even a room with moderate lighting.

Does Natural Gray have Yellow in It?

Behr Natural Gray has the slightest warm undertone to it. The color almost has a neutral base which makes it appear ever so slightly warm. It is very subtle though, so you do not have to worry about this color appearing yellow once it is painted onto the walls.

Natural Gray Undertones

The undertones in Natural Gray are a combination of taupe and gray, which give this color a very slight greige feeling. I previously painted my living room and kitchen in Natural Gray by Behr and the color pulled more gray in my home because of the decor and lighting.

I liked the color Natural Gray, but after 5 years I was ready for a slightly warmer version of this color. So, I painted my living room and kitchen with Moderne White because it is more light reflecting and warmer than Natural Gray.

Below you can see a subtle difference between Moderne White and Natural Gray by Behr. You can see that Moderne White is slighter lighter and warmer compared to the true gray tones in Natural Gray.

What Accent Colors Go With Natural Gray?

If you are trying to pull more cool undertones out of Natural Gray then I suggest you pair it with bright white paint colors or slate blue paint colors.

If you are looking to warm up Natural gray then I suggest you go with a creamy white and green.

The color Polar Bear by Behr is a great choice for fresh bright white trim, doors, baseboard, and even cabinets.

Wood Stain Colors Compliment Natural Gray?

Since this color leans toward the neutral side, you can pair just about any wood stain color with Natural Gray. If you are looking to warm up the paint color then bring in the stain color Rustic Beige. To maintain a more neutral or cool feel, opt for the stain color Weathered Oak.

Where Should I Avoid Natural Gray?

Natural Gray is considered almost neutral and has a LRV of just over 50, so it will work in just about any space that you paint it. I would be careful using it near orange wood tones as it may compete against the wood color instead of complementing it.
