Green Laundry Room Cabinets

Since a laundry room is typically a small space, you should go with a fun design like these green cabinets!

Instead of playing it safe with your design, this is the space that you should go bold.

If there is a color that you have been wanting to trying then a small laundry room is the perfect place to try it.

I painted these laundry room cabinets green and I absolutely love how this design came out.

Laundry Cabinets

If you already have laundry cabinets then you can easily give them a light sand and start painting with the tips below.

Most builder grade laundry rooms do not have cabinets, instead they have white wire shelves.

So, if you want to add laundry cabinets to this space then you can find them at a home improvement store or buy used cabinets.

How to Save Money on Your Project

To save money on the design, you should consider adding wood shelving between cabinets like this laundry room.

Hanging laundry room cabinets across the entire wall will add up quickly, so mixing in some shelving will cut the cost.

If you have some scrap wood laying around then this is a great way to use it up and save money on this project.

This will also, make the design look more interesting and give you a little space to decorate.

The great thing about these wood shelves is that they can be stained any color and will help warm up the space.

How to Paint Cabinets

I am sure you don’t want to hear this, but you should lightly sand your cabinets before painting.

Sanding really doesn’t take that long and you don’t have to sand down to the wood.

A light sanding on the cabinets with fine sandpaper will do the trick to roughen up the surface.

Why You Need to Sand Cabinets

The surface of the cabinets needs a light etching, so the paint adheres and lasts.

I have used other cabinet paint and kits that claim that no sanding is required, but I don’t find these claims to be true.

Sure the paint in the cabinet kits will easily brush onto cabinets, but the paint will not last long term.

My kitchen cabinets were painted with a kit and they look great, but there is a ton of chips on the doors and drawers.

If your painted cabinets chipped liked mine did, then here are some tricks to fix the chipped paint.

The Best Cabinet Paint

After you have lightly sanded and wiped down your laundry cabinets, you can start to paint them.

I highly recommend using Behr Interior Semi-Gloss Enamel to paint your laundry cabinets.

This paint can be found at Home Depot and can be tinted any color and does not require a clear coat or primer.

The color of these green cabinets is Oyster Bar by Sherwin Williams.

Home Depot added the Sherwin paint to the Behr Interior Semi Gloss Enamel with no problem.

Since I have painted cabinets a few times and several pieces of furniture, I found this paint to be the best.

If you want to learn more about this paint, I have a lot more information here when I used this to update a friend’s kitchen cabinets.

How to Paint Laundry Cabinets

I recommend using a Wooster Paint Brush for Enamel and a High Density Foam Paint Roller to paint cabinets.

Make sure to remove all hardware, doors, drawers before painting them.

Do not be lazy and leave the cabinet doors on or you will end up with paint drips and will miss spots when painting.

Lightly brush on the paint in all areas that a roller will not be able to cover then using a foam roller paint the remaining areas.

Applying the Second Coat of Paint

After your cabinets and doors have dried overnight, you can flip them over and paint the other side.

If you want to save time, you could use painter’s pyramids under the doors and drawers.

The painter’s pyramids help prop the cabinets or drawers up so the paint does not smear while drying on the other side.

Every color that I have used with this paint has only required 2 total coats to achieve the right coverage.

Let the cabinets fully cure for at least 48 hours before hanging the doors and drawers.

Especially if you have small children that run around and destroy your home like mine.

Top Protective Clear Coat

The protective top coat is mixed into the the paint, so no clear coat is required with this paint as it is super durable!
