Don’t wake up looking like a snack because you ate a late night snack! I ditched this eating habit and feel better than ever. Stop feeling sorry yourself when it comes to food and recognize what needs to change.
Ask Yourself This…
- Is this need to eat late at night based on a habit or a fact that I am hungry?
- Am I eating because it’s a cozy ritual to relax in the evening?
- Is it worth it to eat this because it could effect my sleep and mood the next day?
- Are my blood sugars crashing because I didn’t eat a healthy dinner?
- Is that alcoholic drink giving me late night cravings?
How I Broke the Late Night Eating Habit
I noticed I was eating based on habit, not the fact that I was actually hungry. I realized I was drinking a glass of wine and eating a bag of popcorn to relax. I feel satisfied because I eat a balance of healthy fats, protein, and complex carbs.
If I ate 2-3 bowls of pasta, my glucose would spike then crash causing hunger. My blood sugars crash after alcohol, which made me hungry. So, I stopped drinking!
Change Your Mindset
- Make food choices that boost your mood, energy, and help you think clearly.
- Find a balance that works for your own body, don’t go extreme or it won’t last.
- Instead of feeling sorry for yourself with food, think about your mood and energy levels when you make good food choices.
- You can still eat a small serving of pasta, but thin it out with veggies and protein. This can help with glucose spikes and dips.
- Get rid of alcohol if you don’t see it helping you with your health goals. Save money and calories!
Make it a Lifestyle
- Learn about fasting and fit it into your routine so it makes sense. You don’t have to be extreme with it to see benefits.
- A fasting mindset helps you keep the pantry door closed at 6PM sharp.
- Do chores or go for a walk every night after dinner. Just get out of the kitchen!
- Get motivated with health podcasts and audiobooks on your walks.
- We all get busy and life happens. Remind yourself it’s not an option to not take care of yourself.
Conclusion
We can easily lose sight of our health when life gets in the way. Even though we know late night eating isn’t good for us, we all need the reminder from time to time. This helps keep us consistent and keep the pantry closed after dinner time.
